Nicolaï Afanassiev (born 1820 or 1821, died 1906) was rather known in his own time. First violonist with the Orchestra of the Moscow Imperial opera and the Saint-Petersburg Italian Opera, he was also a conductor and a soloist. The miniature for violin held an important place among his compositions (4 operas, a symphony, chamber music works).
