Born: 1940 in Switzerland. Mezzo-soprano. Studied from 1950 to 1965 at the Conservatory of Fribourg piano and organ playing, composition with Aloys Fornerod, singing with Juliette Bise and Tiny Westendorp. During her career Nicole Rossier-Maradan appeared first of all as a concert singer, whereby she performed a repertoire of very wide scope. She sang the great Passions, the B minor Mass (BWV 232), numerous Cantatas of J.S. Bach, the oratorios Israel in Egypt and Messiah by George Frideric Handel, Masses of Haydn and Mozart and also his Requiem, Missa Solemnis by L.v. Beethoven, Felix Mendelssohn’s Eliah, Petite Messe Solennelle by Rossini, Stabat Mater by A. Dvorák, Oratorio de Noël by Camille Saint-Saëns, Alto Rhapsody by Brahms, Pierrot Lunaire by Arnold Schoenberg, and modern works of Luciano Berio, Arthur Honegger, F. Martin and Igor Stravinsky. In addition she mastered a variety of Lieder by German and French and Russian (Mussorgsky) composers. Nicole Rossier-Maradan achieved the high points in her concert career with appearances in major Swiss cities, in Germany (Frankfurt a.M., Stuttgart, Bachwoche Ansbach), France (Paris, Autun, Nîmes, Lyon, Grenoble, Besancon), Italy (Milan, Bologna, Brescia), at the Festival of Aix-en-Provence, in Gent, Lisbon and Buenos Aires. She appeared in radio and television broadcasts in Switzerland and in France. The artist belonged for many years to the Ensemble Vocal de Lausanne, under the direction of Michel Corboz. She appeared also in music-dramatic scenes (Opéra de chambre Geneva, Espace Cardin Paris, Annecy), after she had studied pantomime in Paris with Marcel Marceau.
