Nicos Vouris

voc, bvoc,
Musician / Producer of Dance

Cape Town based radio and music producer Nicos Vouris began his music career at the age of 17. From Greek origin and growing up on the slopes of Table Mountain, Nicos began his music career playing the drums in his local church, which he and his sister Aliki attended. They had a passion for music and both yearned to start a group of their own. In 1994, Nicos and his singing sister Aliki started a pop/dance group called JC Culture. They were spotted by a local record company and soon after were signed up. Their self-titled debut CD was released in South Africa and The Netherlands. On the strength of their first album, the duo was then invited to Holland to perform at various dance festivals. The main concerts were the Flevo Totaal and the Rotterdam Dance Music Festivals where Nicos, Aliki and dancers performed to a crowd of over 30 000 people. They performed along side the likes of “Six Pence None the Richer, Jars of Clay, Cameron Dante of Bizaar Inc., DC Talk, Kirk Franklin and Mary Mary.” Three more albums followed and Nicos found himself touring to Australia, New Zealand and Europe, performing to massive crowds 8 months of the year. Nicos ‘ group JC Culture was also nominated for “Best Contemporary Dance” album at the 2000 SAMA Awards held at the Sun City Super bowl. In 2004, Nicos V released a dance remix of a South African classic “Man on the Moon” originally done by 80’s group BallyHoo. It was released under group name “Magnetik” on the Gallo / RPM Label and also appeared on South Africa’s top selling compilation, BUMP 13. In the same year Nicos V collaborated with the now late Redd-Angel on a dance track called “Get Loose”. In 2009, Nicos released a new single titled “In the Movies” which features Aliki on vocals.
