No Violins were an Australian group based in Rockhampton, Queensland from 1989 until 1995. Starting out in high school in 1989 the band played mainly to friends at private parties to test their live sound. The band began with Damian Cagney (vocals, guitar); Chris Doherty (vocals, keyboards); Leonard Quinn (guitars); Glen Cummins (bass) and Alessandro Campobassi (drums). After recording this 4 track demo EP (Venerdi - using the Italian word for Friday - as the demo was recorded on a Friday) Paul Widt (vocals) joined the band and they played local clubs, pubs and entered in regional and state rock awards competition with moderate success. Playing mainly covers, they scored a couple of support acts for larger Australian acts (Jenny Morris and Frente) touring the area. The original guitarist was replaced with numerous others until James Woodward joined to stay with the band until the final gig on January 8th 1995. The band split in 1995 when members moved to other cities and explored different directions musically. The band's Venerdi EP hd tracks written by all members, and had sounds inlfuenced by REM and late 80's Rock/Pop. While the band had promise, the lack of enough original material, and band members desires to follow other pursuits, they eventually called it quits.
