Noemi Dee is an Italian dance music persona created by New Music International. According to the short biography published on the label’s website, she is named after Noemi, the singer’s real middle name, and Dee, a tribute to her favourite singer Dee Dee Bridgewater. The name of the singer is not mentioned explicitly by the label, but Francesca Messina and her family are thanked on the debut single “Out of My Soul (Take Your Time)” from 1999. The biography also does mention that she is a 26 year old Florentine girl, which matches Francesca Messina given that it has not been updated since the release of the debut single, and gives a detailed description of vocal qualities that Messina indeed possesses. Francesca Messina had already provided vocals for a couple of other projects, including singing It's Love, which was licensed to 32 countries. Preparations for the Noemi Dee project began in 1998 and was the first (public) attempt to launch Francesca Messina as an independent artist. The second and final single, called “Leave Me Alone”, was released over two years later with anonymous artwork and the voice of Melody Castellari. Messina’s short-lived career as Noemi Dee is probably better understood when seen in conjunction with another New Music International project, Lady Violet, and its international success. Its debut single “Inside to Outside” was released soon after Noemi Dee’s first single and while it was recorded by Melody Castellari, the project’s image was built around Francesca Messina and her noble “blue blood” heritage. Since Francesca Messina had already proven her ability to sing and also recorded the subsequent singles, it is likely that “Inside to Outside” was recorded before she assumed the role as Lady Violet’s public image. Apart from recording the rest of Lady Violet’s songs, Francesca Messina did not give her voice to any other New Music International projects after that, instead focusing solely on the Lady Violet project until she left both the label and project in 2003. Melody Castellari would on the other hand record Noemi Dee’s second single and also give her vocals to the far more anonymous project Labelle (2). In an interview she said that she would mostly provided her voice, not her image or even her name.
