Oddvar Berg was born in Oslo, Norway on 3 December 1914. He was licensed as a local preacher in the Free Methodist Church in Tacoma, Washington on 10 July 1948, and graduated from Seattle Pacific College on 19 July 1950. He spent 20 years in the Belgian, Congo as a missionary, then a professor/ chaplain under the auspices of the Belgium government. The Bergs were forced to leave the Congo in 1960 due to uprisings after the country received its independence. Reverend Berg was a professor at Royal Athenee in Brussels, Belgium for two years and then immigrated to the United States in 1962 with the assistance of the United Presbyterian Church USA. On 7 May 1968, Berg, and his wife, Peace Haly Berg, became citizens of the United States of America. Oddvar Berg served as a preacher for churches in Tennessee, Alabama, and Kentucky. He was an evangelist, lecturer of patriotism for schools and civic clubs, after dinner speaker and billed himself as a motivational and inspirational speaker, advocate of patriotism, and educator.
