The music of free-rock collective O I S E A U X - T E M P Ê T E ([wazo-tɑ̃.pɛːt] - Storm Petrels) is bred from places in turmoil, be it Greece, Turkey or Lebanon. Oiseaux-Tempête embraces the freedom of improvisation, as well as the communal function of collaboration. This is secular music that crosses boundaries and cultures, embodying an intersection where post-rock, jazz, Arabic music, punk and experimental electronic music find common ground and refuge. With OISEAUX-TEMPÊTE, Frédéric D. Oberland and Stéphane Pigneul have chosen a name, a call from the sea, of almost totemic quality. First, perhaps, it offers the suggestion of journeys over great distance, the distant hymns of fortune-tellers and gravitydefying acts of the oracles. Yet at the same time, comes the idea of earthly chaos, a willing reference to the telluric frenzy that darkens the sky yet also, paradoxically, brings promise of a radiant tomorrow. Since 2012, the core duo beside drummers Ben Mc Connell, Sylvain Joasson or Jean-Michel Pirès have been making instrumental and free-music that's heavy, provocative, and in no way intended for just a casual listen. On their DEBUT album (2013), they intertwine their creative process with the photographer Stéphane C. in order to document the existential conflict caused by the political and economic turmoil in Greece. The year after, the band invited a selection of kindred spirits and remixers to lend their talents to RE-WORKS featuring Scanner, Justin Small's Do Make Say Think, Saåad, Witxes. For ÜTOPIYA? (2015) the travels moved to Istanbul and Sicily, the group expanded with the addition of Gareth Davis & GW Sok (The Ex's former vocalist). Compiling b-sides and previously unreleased material, UNWORKS & RARITIES (2016) features also ondes martenot's virtuoso Christine Ott. Partly recorded in 2016 in Beirut, Lebanon, AL-'AN ! (And Your Night Is Your Shadow - A Fairy Tale Piece Of Land To Make Our Dreams) is bringing their Mediterranean voyage to the serendipity of epiphanies and joyful collisions - mixing free, rock and Middle-East sonorities, and featuring Sharif Sehnaoui, Charbel Haber, Mondkopf, تامر أبو غزالة, GW Sok, عبد قبيسي & Ali El Hout, Youmna Saba, Stéphane Rives...
