German singer and actor, born October 29, 1946 in Potsdam. His daughter Yasmin Knoch is also a singer, known as Yasmin K.. Jörg Knoch grew up as the son of an actress in Munich, where he performed in children's roles in various films, including "Königswalzer" (1955) and "Weil du arm bist, musst du früher sterben" (engl.: "Because you're poor, you need to die earlier" - 1956). To this end, he received his first violin-, piano- and guitar-lessons. He was a member of the Regensburger Domspatzen (engl.: Regensburg cathedral choir), where he received vocal training and completed a vocal studies at the "Hochschule für Musik und Theater" (engl.: High school for music and theatre) in Hamburg. In 1967 he went to the "Ralf Arnie Musikverlag" as a junior-singer and it was under the name "Jörg (12)" in 1967 and 1968 a total of four singles on vinyl. The titles are: - "Du sollst meine letzte Liebe sein" - "Mariangela" - "Treusein ist bei Dir nicht schwer" - "Heute musst du dich entscheiden" - "Versuch´s noch einmal mit mir" At the same time, he sang in the german musical "Hair". Later, he called himself then Oliver Bendt and had bigger success with cover versions of British hits, including: - "Was ich tat, tat ich nur für Maria" (engl.: "What I did, I did just for Maria") - "Ich komm zurück nach Amarillo" (engl.: "I come back to Amarillo") - "Mein Lied für Maria" (engl.: "My song for Maria") - "Oh, Marie" (engl.: same) In the late 1970s he lived for some time on the Caribbean island of St. Lucia. There began the idea for the Goombay Dance Band, which brought him his greatest successes 1979/1980. The biggest success in Germany was the song "Sun Of Jamaica". The single has been sold 11 million times. International the single was topped by "Seven Tears" (1982), the title was in England for 12 weeks in the charts, and 3 weeks to place 1. Oliver Bendt lives with his family in Norderstedt, near Hamburg.
