Oliver was trained at the University of Bristol and in London at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He has written widely for film and television, jazz, educational music, and for the theatre and concert hall. His television work ranges from drama to natural history, magazine shows, lifestyle programmes, and scientific and historical documentaries, made by the BBC, ITV, and independent companies both in the UK and abroad. Recent broadcast commissions include the Snakemaster series starring Austin Stevens (Channel Five/Animal Planet), David Starkey's historical series Edward and Mary: The Unknown Tudors (Channel Four), various Natural World documentaries (BBC2), Timewatch (BBC2), and JFK's Women: The Scandals - Revealed (Channel Five). His music has been performed and recorded by various London musicians and orchestras, the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, the National Youth Jazz Orchestra of Great Britain, the Munich Symphony Orchestra, the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra. Oliver is alarmingly talented and makes it worse by being huge fun to work with.
