A.k.a. Oma Drake née Oma Heard
Oma Heard, sometimes credited under her married name Oma Drake, was quite experienced in the recording industry when she entered Motown in 1964. At Motown she recorded some solo sides and some duet sides with Marvin Gaye. Out of all her Motown recordings all but one solo single was unreleased at the time. Four duet sides surfaced on the Marvin Gaye Collection in 1990, a fifth side was released on A Cellarful Of Motown! Vol. 4 in 2010. An unreleased solo side was released in 2007 on A Cellarful Of Motown! Vol. 3. There is some confusion regarding Oma Page in the Motown historiography. The confusion stems from the labeling of the duet sides that Oma Heard recorded with Marvin Gaye. The vault tapes were misfiled as by Marvin Gaye & Oma Page. At the time there was a singer named Oma Page who recorded at Motown. According to the liner notes of The Complete Motown Singles, Vol. 4: 1964 only one recording by her has been found in the Motown vaults; a cover of "When Someone's Good To You", also recorded by Motown labelmate Carolyn Crawford. It remains unreleased to this day (April, 2011). To add to the confusion, the real Oma Page's brother, Billy Page, co-wrote two of the duet sides that the fake Oma Page (aka Oma Heard) recorded with Marvin Gaye.
