Since releasing his debut album ‘Satellites & Constellations’, Only Child has Djed all over the world from Scandinavia to Australia and Moscow to L.A with the biggest and the best. As well as being Grand Central’s Only Child he runs ‘The Electric Chair’ in Manchester [‘ The Best Underground Club in the UK’ - The Face] - as one half of the Djing duo ‘The Unabombers’. Through these legendry club nights Only Child has graced the decks alongside New York legends such as Francois Kevorkian, (who ended up playing a 4 hour set at the Unabombers Flat after the club was over!) the impressive list continues with Joe Clausell, Danny Krivitt, DJ Spinna, Carl Craig, Theo Parrish, Jazzanova, Rainer, Truby etc. Last year saw Only Child touring Australia on the festival circuit. He completed the Vibes On A Summer Day Festival series accompanying St Germain & MJ Cole.His music is often heard on television and the Only Child track ’When 6 Loves 9’ was used on popular American TV programme - ‘Sex in the City’ , based in New York. The soulful beats of Only Child suited the programme perfectly. No stranger to remixes, his past projects include Richard Dorfmeister's ‘Tosca’, (G Stone), ‘Hefner’ ; ‘NLO’ (20/20 Vision) & ‘Fumi’ (Out of the Loop). He has also remixed the likes of F-Comm’s ‘St Germain’, ‘Snooze’ on Belgium's SSR, ‘The Freakniks’ on London's Scenario label and ‘F.U.N.K.’ on Pharm Recordings label. More recently, and since adding the finishing touches to his second album ‘Solitaire’ he has reworked JCR’s ‘Victor Davies’, Stereo Deluxe ‘Mo Horizons’; Glasgow Underground’s ‘Neon Heights’, Skint’ ‘Space Raiders’, and lately Black Grass on Brightons Cat Skills label and for Grand Central - new signing Niko and hip hop outfit the Funky Fresh Few have had the Only Child touch. His releases for Grand Central, whilst challenging, are sublimely soulful and encompass his love for DJ-ing. An typical DJ set from Only Child is a journey through futuristic funk - incorporating classic uptempo and electro breaks, deep house and hip hop. All these aspects are visibly evident in the plethora of styles that make up the Only Child sound. His second album ‘Solitaire’ features Kathy Brown. Also, Detroit’s Amp Fiddler because his sound is “Raw & souful, Amp’s voice sits somewhere between a Sly Stone & D'angelo.”. The hip hop edge is added by Kriminul, who is DJ Spinna’s partner in crime as the Jigmastas. His collaboration provided one of the highlights of Only Child’s 1st LP in - ‘I’ve got a Right’ which still being played by the likes of Jazzanova over 2yrs after its release. Other ladies on ‘Solitaire’ are GC’s favourite ‘The Voice’ Veba as Only Child explains “As crazy as they come, Veba is a one take wonder who adds rawness to any track she sings on that few in the world can match let alone the UK.” And new signing Niko: “Another Brooklyn hook up (along with Krim) I was fortunate to be in GCHQ when her demo dropped in and instantly imagine her voice over a tune I had been working on “. Fully trained Jazz vocalist her voice was perfect for Loves Reprise, but she’s so versatile she can sing it hard too as on 'Show me love'. Solitaire is out 16th June 2003 on Grand Central Records.
