A.k.a. Otomo Yoshihide's New Jazz Ensemble Otomo Yoshihide's New Jazz Quintet
Since 2005, Otomo Yoshihide's New Jazz Orchestra is one of Otomo's main projects, in which he explores the field of jazz, live improv, post-onkyo, electroacoustic music. The Orchestra acts as a successor for both New Jazz Quintet (ONJQ) and New Jazz Ensemble (ONJE), and has an ever-changing line-up of approximately 10-12 musicians. In 2005 New Jazz Orchestra released two albums: ONJO with vocals by Kahimi Karie and Mariko Hamada, and Out To Lunch, covering Eric Dolphy's eponymous album Out To Lunch! in its entirety. ONJO gave many live performances in 2006-2007 in Japan, Germany, Switzerland, France, Italy. Some of those concerts are documented on two sequential double-albums Live Vol. 1 Series Circuit and Live Vol. 2 Parallel Circuit – particularly shows in Berlin, Tokyo and Nagoya, where Orchestra played in very extended line-up of 30+ artists.
