A.k.a. Allen Johnson
Allen Johnson, aka Overflo, aka Albert Jenkins is the owner of Needle to the Groove San Jose (Record Shop) & a partner for the label NTTG Ent, LLC. He grew up in Evansville, IN & after high school went to college in Chicago, IL. As an artist he started out rapping & producing as, Overflo, and he made records with his groups the Stowaways & Nacrobats in Chicago, IL. He was the co-founder of the independent label, Birthwrite Records circa 2003. Once the label was established he worked for Crosstalk Distribution, a local vinyl & CD independent distribution company. He later worked as a Sales Associate for RedEye Distribution, and then became an engineer & manager at EV Productions. For the label he acted as an executive producer, manager, beat maker, arranger, engineer, head of sales, tour manager, photographer, & graphic designer. Birthwrite was absorbed by EV Productions, and the label fizzled due to poor sales. With the rise of the MP3 in the early 2000's, indie labels were too invested in physical merchandise and were abruptly folding nationwide. He continued to DJ & produce in the Bay Area, and by this time had amassed a 5,000 piece record collection. He developed a deep passion for vinyl & decided to use it as his exclusive DJ format. He virtually stopped producing, but continued to DJ, hoard albums, & did graphic design. He did some more college as well as part time work for Clear Channel & Streetlight Records. By 2014, he owned over 30,000 records and opened his own record store as an Independent Partner of Needle to the Groove Records in Fremont, CA. In 2017, Needle to the Groove owners Daniel Bernal & Allen Johnson teamed up with singer/songwriter, Jeff Brummett, writer, David Ma, & Michael Boado, aka DJ Basura to form the record label, NTTG Ent. The label acts as independent company who publishes limited releases on vinyl, CDs, & cassettes for a variety of artists ranging from soul, electronic, indie rock, bollywood, latin, and hip hop.
