DJ P-Cutta,” aka Preston Quartey, mixtape artist, deejay and principal owner of Rooftop Entertainment. Preston was born in Washington, DC and raised in Camden County, New Jersey. He returned to the DC metro area in 1993 after being accepted to Howard University. It was here that Preston’s drive and passion for hip-hop ignited. Influenced by rap legends KRS-1, Run-DMC, Public Enemy, Slick Rick, & Big Daddy Kane, amongst others, Preston studied everything about hip-hop and adopted it as a way of life. In 1996, he began distributing mixtapes out of a barbershop ”A Cut Above” and quickly became a major source for local music spots in the DC metro area. A student by day and a Barber / DJ by night he quickly became a part of DC’s underground hip-hop scene and was given the name “P-Cutta.” “I was a barber at the time so people would come get a cut and the newest and mixtape. Word traveled, and I became the hip-hop mixtape expert. It was on from there!”
