Musician of Jazz, Folk, World and Latin

Pablo Martín (b. Vitoria, 1974). Double bass player. At the age of seventeen he started to study contrabass at the Bilbao and Vitoria Conservatoires. Meanwhile he was teaching himself the electric bass, and dabbling in other musical styles. From 1994 he studied at Vienna’s University of Music and Dramatic Arts in Austria, with Josef Niederhammer and Herbert Mayer as professors, graduating in 1999. He’s formed part of the JONDE (Spanish National Youth Orchestra), the EGO (Basque Country Youth Orchestra), and has played with the Ciudad de Granada orchestra, Berlin’s RIAS Jugendorchesster, and Vienna’s Jenesse Orchester, among others. Among the awards he’s picked up so far in his illustrious career are the 1991 Ibiza Special Press Award for Young Artists and first prize at Rome’s 1998 Torneo Internazionale di Musica. Pablo Martín plays with groups from different musical genres, in particular jazz and flamenco, following his role in the ‘Jazzpaña II’ tour. He’s played the Vitoria, Stockholm, Vienna and Miami jazz festivals. He’s currently a member of both pianist Chano Domínguez’s sextet, and guitarist Gerardo Núñez’s trio, with whom he’s recorded the albums ‘Oye cómo viene’ and ‘Un ramito de locura’ respectively. He also works with, among others, Marc Miralta, Perico Sambeat and Antonio Serrano. In 2005 he founded his own record label, BOST Espacio Creativo.
