Subtitled "Palani Vaughan Sings The Music Of King David Kalākaua", this was Vaughan's return to music after recording one album on Hula Records with Sunday Manoa, moving on to do a solo album, and not following up for four years. This album would eventually make him an influential singer and songwriter for the type of songs he was contributing to Hawaiiana. This album had him recording with Na Leo O Nu'uanu, the group who would perform at the Waimea Music Festival that was documented into an album on PaninI Records. Most of its members became influential in their own right. Vaughan would do two more albums as part of his "Iā'oe E Ka Lā" series.
