Paul Johnsen, a native Californian, was born in San Jose, arch 8th, 1927. His musical interest manifested itself at an early age through trumpet and composition studies. Before his twentieth birthday his works had been performed by the Standard Hour radio broadcasts and by the San Francisco Civic Symphony. He received his Bachelor of Music degree, cum laude, from the University of Southern California in 1953. Since that time he has been teaching composition and theory at Fresno State College and later at Humboldt State College.
