Artist Portrait

Paul P. Semicek

tr,
Musician

Paul P. Semicek began his music career at the age of 13, playing trumpet in orchestras. In 1953, at age 17, he formed his own band using many experienced musicians from the region. The band played throughout the Northeast region of Pennsylvania, both as a big band and as a combo. Paul then played trumpet and toured Europe for two years in the U.S. Army 3rd Armored Division Band, Frankfurt, Germany. Paul was a graduate of Susquehanna University with a bachelor's degree in music education. He also performed graduate work at the Peabody Institute of Music in Baltimore, Maryland, and both Bucknell and Bloomsburg universities. In 1958, he began his teaching career at Mount Carmel High School. He played with several drum corps during the early 1960s. It was during this time that Paul first adapted the drum corps style to his marching band. By 1966, the transformation was complete with the creation of the Mount Carmel Mounties
