Per Yngve Ohlin or Dead (as he was known in Mayhem) was a Swedish death/black metal vocalist and song writer born in Stockholm, Sweden on January 16, 1969. He founded Morbid first, then moved on to Mayhem in early 1988. He was known for his wrist slashing and being a personality on stage. He is marked to be one of the best black metal vocalists EVER. Ohlin was very fascinated by death. Before he went on stage, he would inhale bags of dead birds to get the real stench of death. He also would bury his stage clothes and dig them up on the night of a Mayhem show. He is believed to be the first one to use "corpse paint". He didn't use it like Kiss or Alice Cooper did. He used it to look like a corpse. It is rumored that he didn't enjoy this world and Euronymous put a lot of pressure on him. So he wrote a suicide note and the lyrics for "Life Eternal" (which appears on the album "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas"). Next he slit his wrists and throat, and then used a shotgun to shoot himself in the head. April 8, 1991 was his official passing at his band mates home in Norway. R.I.P.
