Musician of R&B/Soul
A.k.a. Cordell P Everett
Cordell "Pete" Everett was born in Fayetteville, NC, March 12, 1958. While attending Douglas Byrd Senior High School in 1972-1976, Pete participated in the marching band under the direction of Thomas Fulp, playing the trumpet and tuba as early as his 9th grade year. For two years he participated in the All State Symphonic Band as the third Chair tuba player. Pete was inspired by some of the neighborhood friends with upcoming bands, along with numerous talent shows, to play the guitar. Fumbling with an old box guitar that his mother had purchased, Pete taught himself to play the guitar, later switching to bass guitar. He grew up singing in the church. He began playing with Chocolate Buttermilk Band at the age of sixteen. He was too young to enter the night clubs. Larry Akles, the leader, often laughed at the fact that he’d tell Pete to stick with him and keep his mouth shut so that they could play in local clubs in the area. He (Larry) often brags about Pete’s musical success and claims he's responsible. Pete’s very proud to have worked with so many fine musicians. One in particular, the late Bobby Ash, was a great lead guitarist who helped Pete at an early age to reach perfection with his bass guitar . In 1998, Pete became a participating member of the world renowned The Fatback Band under the direction of drummer Bill Curtis, who is an inspirational musician and band leader. He toured to England on several occasions performing at the Jazz Cafe, London, in the Glastonbury in 2004, The Big Chill festival and the WOMAD Festival in 2005 which they describe him as a "Barry White look alike that seems to hover over the band ". Pete made his debut as the lead singer with the band. He had the opportunity to tour with Fatback in Tokyo and Spain. When Pete's not touring with the Fatback Band he's out front with his own bands, "The Total Package" and "Prodigal Sons". From time to time members from the Fatback band augment his band. With his band he gets a chance to play a lot of his original compositions, and over the years he has recorded quite a few. Pete has played with several bands throughout his years. He's been the opening act and backup band for such great artist as: Frankie Beverly and Maze, Evelyn Champaign King, Carl Carlton, One Way, Whispers, Manhattans, Delphonics, Earth Wind & Fire, Funkadelic, Chaka Khan, Alexander O’Neal, Joe Tex and many more. Some of the artists he's recorded with include: F C Barnes, Luther Barnes, Canton Spirituals, Mark Greene, Clarence Carter, Millie Jackson, Archie Bell and Margie Alexander. One of Pete's hobbies is work with wood restoring old antiques. He is a collector of junk in which he rebuilds. He designs and builds basses. His pride and joy is his nine string he sometimes uses in concerts.
