It was over Western Queensland when it got the call to return to Sydney... ...a "Mr. Brown" had called to say that he'd planted a bomb on board...one that would detonate when the plane descended below approx. 21,000 feet. He demanded a ransom of $500,000 to tell where the bomb was located... ...the money was paid...he advised that there was no bomb...and, the plane eventually landed safely back in Sydney. "Mr. Brown" turned out to be an Englishman named Peter Macari...he had an accomplice named Raymond Poynting... ...eventually they were caught and sentenced to prison... ...Macari was parolled in 1980 and returned to the UK...with Qantas! Much of the money remains unrecovered. Aussie singer/songwriter, Peter Hiscock. saw the opportunity for a song...so, he came up with this little gem, to the tune of "Click Go The Shears". It was rush-released in Australia in 1971 on a Festival 45, FK4286. It charted in Sydney, where it reached # 21.
