A.k.a. The Devil In The Design

Phil Ogison (known to some by the nom de musique Gwyn) was born at Folkestone, the county of Kent, England, November 6, 1948, just 3 years after the Nazis had given up and gone home. His earliest musical experience was heard in his head, while riding past a medieval castle with his parents. This repeating pattern of minor notes has remained with him to this day. In 1963 he came to Canada with his parents, and lived first in Alberta, then The Yukon, and then BC. He began playing around with draw organs, frequency generators and tape loops in 1966 with the help of an electrician friend, Ken Morin. In 1973 he purchased his first commercial synthesizer, a Roland SH2. Roland has played a prominent part in Phil’s life ever since, along with ARP, Oberheim, Moog and now Steinberg’s family of virtual synths. Along the way, Phil picked up the guitar, and fretless bass, both of which feature from time to time in his music, along with the gorgeous and sultry vocal talents of his wife, Catherine Tammaro and the brilliant synthesizer collaborations of Anne Sulikowski. With over thirty five years of experience in the experimental and avant-pop realms, Phil presents his work both under his own name, and the project name, The Devil In The Design.
