Philippe Weiss is a mix engineer with a hugely impressive discography. His obsessive love of soul, hip hop, jazz, electronica and pop has led him to work with some of the biggest acts in the world. His credits include global heavyweights such as Martin Solveig, Madonna, Cee Lo Green, Wyclef Jean, Kendrick Lamar, George Clinton, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and the Beastie Boys. An avid collector of obscure vinyl, Philippe spent his teenage years working the DJ circuit in his native Switzerland, before securing a dream move to Paris to assist at the renowned Studios Davout. His first ever mix, ‘Underground Connection’ by Assassin feat. Supernatural, sold over 100,000 copies. During these times he was lucky to work with some of his musical heroes, The Red Hot Chilli Peppers and reggae legends Sly And Robbie. Philippe spent the next three years in New York, honing his skills alongside mixer/producer Tony Smalious (Madonna, Aerosmith, A Tribe Called Quest, Soul II Soul), before returning to Paris to set up the famous mix studio, Red Room Studio, Paris From Martin Solveig to Madonna, to Kendrick Lamar via Left Boy, Philippe’s credits are as diverse as they are impressive. He has mixed countless number one hits and multi-platinum records on both sides of the Atlantic, helping to define the international music scene over the past two decades. Other credits include Wyclef Jean, CeeLo Green, Dragonette, Black Coffee, Charles Aznavour, Nneka, Cody ChessnuTT, Bounty Killer, Selah Sue, K’Naan, George Clinton, Beastie Boys, The Knocks, Alicia Keys and Dua Lipa. When it comes to mixing, Philippe follows his instinct. “I think I understand how a song should sound through the radio,” he says. “I can make a song sort of speak to everybody, the 7-year-old, the club kid, the 77-year-old. I know how to be the interface between what an artist has in his head and the final product he’ll get behind and perform, proudly, for years.” In 2016, Philippe relocated his Red Room Studio to London, now arguably the capital’s best sounding mix room. He’s primed for the next chapter in his phenomenal career.
