"Phlegm was a trio of destructive talents from Sydney; Oren Ambarchi, Robbie Avenaim and Nik Kamvissis, now better known for their solo and collaborative recordings, newer acts like Sun, Menstruation Sisters, and Rizili, and the What Is Music? festival that they have made their own. If they had compromised towards actual careerism during the band's shortish lifespan they may have enjoyed commercial success but instead they created a legend for themselves in obnoxiousness that haunts their reputations to this day. The word Phlegm is sometimes mentioned quietly these days, nostalgically, for it evokes liberating memories of excessiveness and sophomorism.
