Harvested's 8mm DVD collects audience film from 1972 through 1977. Pink Floyd 8mm - Harvested Records (HRV DVD 009) I discovered most of these 8mm films over 20 years ago and have enjoyed watching my low gen VHS copies ever since. When I began archiving my collection onto DVD, I knew that one day I'd be faced with the task of digitally remastering these old 8mm films. I was fortunate enough to know the person that purchased the original films of the Hollywood Bowl and LA Sports Arena which were professionally transferred to S-VHS tape in the late 80's. This person was kind enough to loan me his master which I captured and used as the source for this DVD. I wish I could say that the Vienna footage was any better than what has been in circulation, but there's a good chance that those videos used mine as a source anyway. The short Anaheim 77 footage and the newly surfaced Munich 77 footage round this collection off nicely. There's not much available in regards to video footage from 1972-1977 (a very significant time in the band's history, especially in regards to live performance), so hopefully this will fill in a few of the gaps for the time being. Every single shot is not in perfect synch, and some artistic license has been applied throughout. I also chose to end the DVD with the Munich footage, opting to stray from the actual chronological order. 8mm took me two years to finish, working in my spare time, and frequently getting frustrated and stuck. I replaced all the audio from the original footage that had live sound (LA 75, Vienna 77) and synched up the correct audio to the rest, which was never properly done until now. Hollywood Bowl 22 September 1972 (20:46) Video: 8mm > S-VHS > NTSC DV (avi) > Vegas (CBR 6) MPEG-2 Audio: "Bowl de Luna" (Harvested Records) Hollywood Bowl 1972 is a great film from the Dark Side tour, handheld from center/right center position. We are treated to 20 minutes of some nice close-ups and full stage shots. The colors are very good, and even in the darkly lit sections we can still see Roger wearing a black shirt and slacks. There are 9 sections of songs in this reel and the excellent, stereo-quality audio was dubbed from the Harvested CD Bowl de Luna. LA Sports Arena 27 April 1975 (16:26) Video: 8mm > S-VHS > NTSC DV (avi) > Vegas (CBR 6) MPEG-2 Audio: Master > DAT > CDR > Vegas (PCM Stereo) LA Sports Arena 1975 was captured in a 16-minute 8mm film clip shot from a bit of a distance on the right stage side, but offers a nice, full stage shot that shows all the band members tightly formed and playing cuts from seven different songs. The audio track used was from the master and is surprisingly good quality. One small clip in the film even appears to be someone suspended from a wire and flying over the concert venue. Again, it is too bad that more film from these older tours doesn't exist, as it would have been nice to see more of the pyrotechnics and inflatables. Stadthalle Vienna 1 February 1977 (16:50) Video: 3rd Gen VHS NTSC > NTSC DV (avi) > Vegas (CBR 6) MPEG-2 Audio: Master > DAT > CDR > Vegas (PCM Stereo) Vienna 1977 was shot from the floor and contains 16 minutes of fantastic close-ups. Unfortunately, it might rate as the worst in overall quality, because the best source available appears to be a third generation VHS from the Harvested collection. I know I traded for this on VHS many times and would always get the same quality if not worse, never an upgrade, so we have to figure that this version of the film will be as good as it will get. The audio is from the camera master and is also surprisingly good considering the recording source. Anaheim Stadium 7 May 1977 (4:04) Video: 2nd Gen VHS > NTSC DV (avi) > Vegas (CBR 6) MPEG-2 Audio: "Animal Instincts" (Harvested Records) from 9 May 1977 Anaheim 1977 is the shortest of all clips, coming in at just over four minutes. One can only wonder why more wasn't recorded; perhaps the camera malfunctioned. It's a shame, because this film has some incredible close-ups as well as full stage shots showing the umbrella stage set that was used during this tour. The audio is from Harvested's Animal Instincts release, and it sounds great. The synch job was also very good on this clip. Olympiahalle Munich 1 March 1977 (10:55) 8mm > PAL Master > 1st Gen PAL > NTSC DV (avi) > Vegas (CBR 6) MPEG-2 Audio: 2nd Gen Cassette > CDR > Vegas (PCM Stereo) from 28 February 1977 Munich 1977 is an incredible, newly-surfaced film that incorporates the original film right off the PAL video master, in addition to photos and video clips to offer over ten minutes of the Animals tour experience. Being from the master, it is by far the best quality film clip of the compilation. Nine songs are highlighted, and the cameraman caught great shots of pyro and the mirror ball, as well as fairly detailed film of the band in action
