A.k.a. Derek Marin Autopilot (3) Modest D My Better Half Sideview Wetspot
Platonik aka Derek Marin was born & raised in New York ctiy. He developed a passion for music early on & started playing the drums at age 9. Being influenced by groups like Depeche Mode, New Order, Front 242 & Big audio dynamite he stared playing in bands at age 14. During this time he also started to build his production skills, taking charge of the recording, mixing, & editing aspects at home & in the studio. He also began to experiment with other instruments like keyboards, bass & guitar. After playing drums in bands & generally being part of the background for almost ten years, Derek realized that there was something missing. The year was 1991 & techno started to become a prominent force in NYC. This was the thing that filled the void for him. It was new, exciting & it was a kind of music that he could do on his own as well as take advantage of his growing studio skills. So he purchased some electronic gear & by 1992 started producing tracks & selling mix tapes. By 1994 Derek started to become a respected dj in the electronic community in new york. It wasn't long before he started being part of important events, holding many residencies, working at the vinyl shop Throb in New York, & commercially releasing tracks. (see discography for more details) Currently Mr. Marin is as busy as ever. He continues to produce tracks & remixes for various record labels, djs around the world, produces mix cds, & keeps things together at Throb records.
