Single FR 1974 on Maeght Editeur label
Classical (Avant-garde, Experimental)
Sculptures à Cordes, magazine/portfolio (approx 11x15 in.) including 7 loose litographs + one blue flexidisc, published as #209 in the Derrière Le Mirroir series by Galerie Maeght, Paris. Regular edition. Also published in a deluxe edition of 150 signed and numbered copies. These “Stringed Sculptures” were created during the 1970s by Belgian kinetic artist Pol Bury, born 1922. Each instrument is conceived with a specific number of strings (6, 12, 13, 17, 21, 25, 26, 33, 58, 82) and frets made of wooden spheres or sticks. A visually striking work, these sculptures allude to a mathematical-based, Pythagorean tuning, but are actually in free tuning. In the accompanying flexidisc, Bury demonstrates the instruments, describing number of strings and frets, and playing them with sticks.
