The Portobello Explosion were basically an extension of the Mirage, a little-known British pop/rock/light psychedelic band that put out seven singles between 1965 and 1968. The Mirage ended when drummer David Hynes and guitarist/lead singer Dee Murray left to join the Spencer Davis Group in late 1968. In spring 1969, Hynes left the Spencer Davis Group and rejoined the other members of the Mirage, possibly with Murray also in tow (it's not clear from existing documentation), to form the Portobello Explosion, who did one single for Carnaby in 1969.
