Album ZA 1987 on Smyle Records label
R&B/Soul (Afrobeat, Funk)
Pride were a duo led by David Mabaso, former Big Dude who played on 'Weekend Special' (and the band's last surviving member). He plays bass and drums on Indabazabantu (news of the people), while Nosipho Bless takes care of vocals. It shows the newfound optimism and creativity that the bubblegum era had ushered in but is heavily derivative of bigger hitmakers. Smooth synths and funky basslines ensure another seamless blend of American and local influences. Tracks include the mapantsula-styled 'Amateki' and the downtempo R&B of 'Don't Give Up'.
