Radio show broadcasted in the USA two weeks starting 2-25-91. Contains interviews with: Brian May, Roger Taylor, Freddie Mercury, John Deacon, Roy Thomas Baker (producer), John Taylor (Duran Duran) and Paul McCartney. Interviews with the artists listed above are included between the music. SHOW NOTES: The show coincided with the release of the last Queen album of new material to feature the late great Freddie Mercury, Innuendo , The show also takes a retrospective look at Queen’s career up until 1991. The show features interviews, new and old, with all four members of the band. Freddie didn’t grant a lot of interviews, so it’s great to hear from him on this show. Critics generally considered it one of the best of their latter career, and it was the first to go Gold in the US since 1984’s The Works . The album was recorded while Mercury was in the final stages of his battle with AIDS. I think the interviews covering the Innuendo album were only with Roger Taylor and Brian May (Freddie’s health was not discussed nor should it have been). The interviews discuss many of their iconic songs and key albums like A Night At the Opera , News of the World , and The Game . You will also hear the band discussing the following: · Playing in Japan , an area that didn’t have a big following with Western music at the time · Interviews with celebrity Queen fans like John Taylor of Duran Duran and the Beatles’s Paul McCartney · The difference in recording in the city vs the country-side · Queen’s response to the punk movement · The problem with writing for the singer · The use of music videos as a promotional tool · Working with David Bowie on “Under Pressure” · Increased exposure in the U.S. due to their appearance at Live Aid · The threat of the Monkees revival · Roger’s disappointment over the lack of response in the US to the 1984 album The Works · The show closes with a final thought from Freddie.
