Hip-Hop/Rap
One of the main Brazilian rap and hip hop groups, Racionais MC's appeared in the outskirts of São Paulo in the 80's, introducing a political speech in favor of the outcast population from big Brazilian cities. In 1988, they made their first recording, which was included in the compilation entitled "Consciência Black". Two years later, the group recorded their first solo album, "Holocausto Urbano". The album "Sobrevivendo no Inferno" made Racionais famous and sold 1,500,000 copies. Still, the group adopted a dubious attitude in relation to the media and the record industry, which they regard as part of the system they fight against. The group: Mano Brown (Pedro Paulo Soares Pereira), Ice Blue (Paulo Eduardo Salvador), Edi Rock (Edivaldo Pereira Alves) & DJ KL Jay (Kleber Geraldo Lelis Simões).
