Album US 1951 on Columbia label
Latin (Mambo)
(Liner Notes, in English and Spanish) Among the most exciting mambos in a collection recently issued by Columbia were Mambo Negro and No Hagas Olas, both played by Ramon Marquez and his orchestra. Indeed, these two numbers caused so much comment in the collection (Long Playing Record FL 9509, Mambo!) that a new collection, consisting entirely of colorful mambos by Ramon Marquez, is now being made available to devotees of his brilliantly provocative music. Ramon Marquez was born in Guadalajara, Mexico. His family was very musical, and his first instruction in harmony and the theory of music came from his father. He entered the National Conservatory of Music, and later served on its faculty, continuing his studies with such leading Mexican musicians as Humberto Campos and José F. Vásquez. As an arranger and conductor, he has worked with various university and military bands throughout Mexico, and has done considerable work with symphonic organizations. In addition to operating a music publishing house with his brother and presenting such lively dance music as is contained on this record. A frequent performer on Mexican radio programs, he is also Secretary for Cultural Relations of the Musician's Union of the Federal District of Mexico. A genuine expert in Latin American music, Ramon Marquez here presents eight mambos for the pleasure of his fans above and below the border.
