This recording contains excerpts from a "Concert for 2001: A Space Odyssey; a 10 hour long piece for an (unfulfilled) vision" which was performed on April 4th, 2001 at Aura Studio in Kaunas, Lithuania. This performance was dedicated to "2001: A Space Odyssey," the book by Arthur C. Clarke and film by Stanley Kubrick. The concert began at 19:00 (Lithuanian time) and ended at 05:00. The audience was asked to bring along sleeping bags for the second portion of this performance. Most audience members did so.This recording does not include a performance by R. Kruopis or the lecture by G. Jankauskas. Tracks 11-13 was recorded later in studio. Additional tracks (AT) from this event are included in mp3 files on this disc. Synthesizers used: Junost 21, Polivox. Aram Chatchaturian's Valse from Masquerade Suite (piano adaptation) is played at the end of track 5. Mastered in 2001, 2002 and 2010. 11-13 recorded in 2001 at Giedrius Litvinas sound studio. First, A. Clarke's "2001: A Space Odyssey" published in the "Zenith" series reached Lithuania. Some years later, the film adaptation by S. Kubrick with the same title reached Kaunas via the Polish television. The book and film alike, are heralded as masterpieces of literature and cinema. And now the prophetic year described by Clarke has arrived. The year - dreamt of, mysterious, and revolving in the heads of so many starstruck thinkers - has come and caught us amid the trash of civilisation, with the very same Kalashnikovs, political infighting and blinkered vision that 2001 sought to chart us away from. We can seek to explain it away, talk of half finished satellite endeavours or the geosynchronous technology that broadcast Baseball around the world from orbit, but the truth stares irrevocably back at us: we have not risen from the earth and are not ascending to the skies. No one has fled to Saturn... Nor has anyone ever reached Mars... Jupiter's moons still remain a mystery. Cosmic station "Mir" fell into the ocean... I cannot believe that no one wishes to become an astronaut anymore... However, it exists through the energy of the enchanted spectators. That colossal space, the existence of which is impossible to deny. And at this very time, in the year 2001, the Seeker is actually flying towards Saturn, towards the solution to the earthly problem and unearthly mystery. That is exactly why the subheading to this concert bears the word 'unfulfilled' in brackets. All that remains is to cry or kneel down before this film for there is nothing else like it, nothing else so grand and desperately hopeless that has ever been created in the history of cinematics. The idea is simple: the flaws of the earth solved in the heavens, and not in some Biblical prophecy or glimmer of half truth but rather in the massive, indisputable morass of space; absolutely real and undeniable. P.S. Besides, it is pretty obvious that A. Clarke was a prophet who had predicted a number of events in the future. That is why his writings are so suggestive and all encompassing us with their solemnity. Translated by Junda
