Ray Ellington was born in London as Harry Pitts Brown on 17 March 1916, to a Russian Jewish mother and an African-American father. A singer, drummer, and bandleader, his Ray Ellington Quartet had a regular musical segment on the The Goon's radio show, and he himself often had small speaking roles in many episodes.
