Rock and Electronic
Ray Off started as a name for Jimmy Currin's onstage collaborations with Ryan Cockburn, aka Spit, and for the solo electro-acoustic gigs he occasionally played at Dunedin's ARC Cafe. It expanded into a slew of different groupings, before settling into a regular quartet, which gave way to a septet, then a quintet. They eschewed the type of "free noise" experimentation common in Dunedin for a style of active-gentle-repetitive listening, and kept regular weekly rehearsals which often turned into Bacchanalian melees. They played a lot for an aleatoric ensemble, but rarely left Dunedin. The name was active from 2004 to 2009.
