Rock and Pop
A.k.a. John Keeling
Rebel was born in a water-logged houseboat anchored on the Arkansas river near Pottsville, Arkansas. He is the youngest of sixteen brothers and sisters. His mother, Bertie Keeling, is still known through-out Arkansas for her colorful and authentic folk singing. Rebel inherited this feel for folklore and country music and it is apparent in his songs and singing style. At the age of fourteen, Rebel moved to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania where he attended and graduated from Central Dauphin High School. In the evenings, he would work and study with the local community theatre; and, during the summers he would serve as an apprentice with the local stock companies. Although this is his first commercial record release, Rebel has appeared on several local and network TV shows and has four motion pictures to his credit. During the 1962 summer stock season, Rebel performed with the Kentucky State Theatre players and received the "Best Young Actor's Achievement Award" for his portrayal of "Tony" in the original production of "Wall to Wall". Rebel's recording career is being guided by Al Greiner who has worked with and coached such recording artists as Connie Francis, Alan Dale, etc. Al's orchestral arrangements of "Wilted Roses" and "No More Tears" give a strong country and western support to Rebel's initial waxing for Sigma (5).
