Red Five (sometimes stylized as 'Red 5') was a Los Angeles-based punk band that was active from 1993 to 1999. The band comprised of Elizabeth Carmellini, Adam Zuckert (both of whom had previously played in the Rik L Rik-fronted band Garbage Hearts), Jenni McElrath, and Mitchel Townsend. Their sound was distinguished by Carmellini and McElrath's melodic vocals, often sung in unison. The band toured extensively throughout the mid 1990s with well-known bands such as Weezer, No Doubt, and Kiss, additionally performing on the 1996 Vans Warped Tour. Although "Flash" stands as the band's only officially-released LP, Red Five had recorded a follow-up entitled "Wink" which was not released by Interscope Records, a major label. Shortly thereafter, the band recorded demos for yet another album, which the label also chose not to pursue. All of these recordings were released on a digital-only anthology in 2009. Mounting frustrations around working with Interscope played a large part in Red Five disbanding in 1999.
