American actor, born June 18, 1917 in Los Angeles, CA, died January 10, 1981 in St. Augustine, FL Most famous for his role as Paladin in the 1957-63 Western "Have Gun - Will Travel" (he also co-wrote its theme, "The Ballad Of Paladin"); other TV series in which he starred included "Medic" (1954-56), "The Richard Boone Show" (1963-64), and "Hec Ramsey" (1973-74). Film roles included "The Desert Fox" (1951), "The Alamo" (1960), the original 1960 version of "Ocean's Eleven," and John Wayne's final movie "The Shootist" (1976).
