Richard Sanford Orshoff was born in 1945 in Los Angeles. He first appeared on the music scene in 1970, engineering for producer Peter Asher. They recorded 4 albums together, John Stewart's 1970 "Willard," Kate Taylor's (James' sister) 1970 "Sister Kate," Jo Mama's 1971 self-titled album, and James Taylor's 1971 "Mudslide Slim and the Blue Horizon" including the single "You've Got a Friend." Richard produced and engineered Jackson Browne's 1971 self-titled album (sometimes called "Saturate Before Using"), which included "Doctor My Eyes," executive produced Dirk Hamilton's 1971 "Thug of Love," engineered Johnny Rivers 1971 "Home Grown" and produced the Poco "Legend" album in 1978. He also engineered on Elton John's 1973 "Caribou" album.
