"Capriccio", a Musical Conversation Piece in One Movement op.85 Dances: Passepied - Gigue - Gavotte for Violin, Cello and Harpsichord or Piano Compiled by Richard Strauss and Clemens Krauss (1893-1954) from material drafted by Stefan Zweig (1881-1942) and Joseph Gregor (1888-1960) Completed in Garmisch on 3rd August 1941 Dedicated to "my friend and collaborator, Clemens Krauss" First performed in Munich (at the Bavarian State Opera/National Theatre) on 28th October 1942 (leader: Rudolf Hartmann; conductor: Clemens Krauss) Trio No.1 (in A) for Piano, Violin and Cello without opus no. AV 37 Completed in Munich on 20th December 1877 (as "op.15"); the 3rd movement (Tempo de Menuetto) is not in the manuscript and was evidently added after the first performances of the original three-movement work (i.e. some time in 1878) Dedicated to the composer's dear uncle, the public prosecutor Anton von Knötzinger First performed in Munich (at the home of the dedicatee) at New Year 1878 Romance for Clarinet and Orchestra without opus no. AV 61 (for Clarinet and Piano) Completed in Munic on 25th June 1879 (as "op.27") Dedicated to ? First performed in Munic (at the Ludwigsgymnasium) in the summer of 1879 at the end-of-term concert given by the school orchestra, with one of the composer's classmates as soloist Romance for Cello and Orchestra or Piano without opus no. AV 75 (I) Note: While working on the orchestral version of the Romance, Strauss wrote two very different versions for piano accompaniment: the shorter, AV 75 (II), is quite unlike the orchestral version, whereas the longer one, AV 75 (I), is a more faithful transcription. Orchestral and piano version AV 75 (I) completed in Munich on 27th June 1883 (as "op.13") Orchestral and piano version AV 75 (I) dedicated to the composer´s uncle, Anton von Knötzinger, attorney general and public prosecutor Orchestral version AV 75 (I) first performed in Dresden on 21st May 1986 by the Dresden Staatskapelle conducted by Günter Neuhold with Jan Vogler as soloist Introduction, Theme and (five) Variations for Horn and Piano without opus no. AV 52 Completed in Munich on 4th October 1878 (as "op.17); begun on 26th September 1878 Dedicated to the composer's beloved father on his birthday, and later to "my dearest and best friend, Carl Stiegler" (Dr Richard Strauss, Salzburg 21st August 1926) First performed ? Trio No.2 (in D) for Piano, Violin and Cello without opus no. AV 53 Completed in Munich in 1878 (as "op.20" and later as "op.11") Dedicated to the composer's dear uncle, Georg Pschorr First performed in Munich (at the home of the dedicatee) in 1878
