Singer of Folk and World
Welsh tenor singer (1906-1988) Richie Thomas was Manager of a Woollen Mill by trade, and one of the most naturally gifted tenors Wales has ever seen. He spent his whole life in Penmachno, near Betws-y-Coed (1906 – 1988) and led the singing in his local chapel for over 50 years. He was 47 years old when he came to public prominence by winning the Blue Riband at the Rhyl National Eisteddfod in 1953, and from then on his life was one long series of concerts and recordings; but he kept on working as a factory manager till his retirement. He recorded for Qualiton, Welsh Teldisc and Cambrian before making his two albums for Sain in 1974 and 1977.
