Rick McKee

Rick McKee began writing music as a young teen. As part of a large musical family he was constantly exposed to music from many eras and genres. He has studied composition with Peter Dewitt, John Corina, Micheal Hennigan and Lewis Nielson. For many years he wrote and co-wrote with the great David Milford (2) with whom he played in the The Brillo Brothers. Over a 20-year period the The Brillo Brothers (Later Milford and McKee) played in churches and college campuses all over the southeastern U.S. and released the album The Brillo Brothers in 1980. McKee has played in many different kinds of groups on several different instruments. McKee has released two solo albums on the Cosmic Possum label. “New Religion” a singer/songwriter cd and “Soft Horizon” an instrumental CD written to accompany “A Guided Yoga Practice” by Sue Hopkins. His arrangements for English Hand Bells have been published by Hope Publishing Co., Lornenz Publishing Company and Genovox Publishing. He and his wife Angee McKee have started Cosmic Possum Publishing to publish his choral music on line. Rick McKee currently teaches elementary music at Acworth Intermediate School in the Cobb County School District in Georgia [USA]. He was recently selected as the 2011 Cobb County Elementary Teacher of The Year. He also received Teacher Of The Year accolades at schools in Whitfield County and Floyd County [Georgia, USA]. Additionally, Rick serves as Adjunct Instructor of Music Education Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, Georgia USA. He has previously taught music education classes at Shorter College and The University of Georgia [athens, Georgia, USA]. Under his direction, the Garden Lakes Elementary Chorus performed at the 1992 Georgia Music Educators Association In-Service Conference. While in Rome, Rick served as director of The Rome Children’s Choir and also performed with The Clocktower Jazz Ensemble, a jazz orchestra. In earlier years, he taught elementary music in Whitfield County, GA and Shawnee, Oklahoma. Rick has been a clinician for large choral events throughout the state of Georgia, including GMEA’s Statewide Elementary Honor Chorus in 2000 & 2012, The Northwest Georgia Choral Festival in 2006, and numerous district and regional honor choruses. McKee has an extensive background in church music, having served as a youth and adult choir director in the Northwest Georgia area. He is a member of the Rome Area Songwriters Association, and has been a member of the Cartersville Songwriters Exchange since July of 2010.
