Supplement to the book "Thinking sound music : the life and work of Robert Erickson" (ISBN 0-914913-33-6) by Charles Shere. The CD along with a booklet is attached to the book. "The three works chosen for this recording represent pivotal moments in Robert Erickson's career. All are heard in 'live' performances, given for the benefit of immediate audiences, not history; but rehearsed and performed in the presence of the composer and hence of particular interest. Recent technological advances have enhanced the recordings, giving them a sonic presence transcending the usual historical document. And none of the three works has previously been accessible to the public." Concerto for Piano and Seven Instruments (1963) recorded at University of California, San Diego, April 25, 1969 Solstice for String Quartet (1984) recorded at its premiere, March 10, 1985, at California Institute for the Arts Taffytime (1983) recorded at its premiere, February 25, 1984, in a concert produced by Loren Rush in collaboration with the UCSD Department of Music Total duration: 68'32"
