A.k.a. Roberto Luis Sanchez
Cuban-born percussionist, specializing on conga drums, timbales and assortment of Cuban and Brazilian instruments. Roberto has played in bands with some of the best Jazz and Latin Jazz pianists such as Jorge Dalto (George Benson/Tito Puente), Manfredo Fest (Concord Picante recording artist/Sergio Mendes’ Bossa Rio band), Breno Sauer (Made in Brasil), Dale Powers (Sister Sledge); Howard Levy (Bela Fleck and Flecktones); and many others. An original member of the Chevere Percussion Ensemble (now called Chevere de Chicago), he and three other fellow percussionists (Alejo Poveda, Adam Rudolph, and Geraldo de Oliveira) created an infusion of African, Afro-Cuban and Afro-Brazilian rhythms with Jazz that has made the band (Chevere) a household name in the Chicago land area. Besides playing in numerous local “Salsa” bands and backing-up international Latin-Pop artists such Juan Gabriel, Leo Dan, Jimmy Santi, Ellis Laboriel and many others, Roberto has also played on back-up bands for English and American pop artists such as Tom Jones, Barry White, Linda Clifford, Linda Carter, and many others.
