Musician / Composer of Classical, Latin, Folk and World
Rodrigo Riera (Carora, Lara, Venezuela, September 19, 1923 - Barquisimeto, Lara, Venezuela, August 19, 1999) was a Venezuelan guitarist and composer of very humble origin and great artistic merits. Author of an important collection of works for the classical guitar, inspired and dedicated to the musical heritage of his native region in the State of Lara in Venezuela. His nationalist writing associates him with the work of Antonio Lauro, but the technique is more accessible to beginner and intermediate guitarists. He was also an important educator of the classical guitar. Many active guitarists currently studied with him in the 1980's and 1990's. Finally, he had an important career as a concert guitarist. Nevertheless, there are not enough representative recordings of his work. Those that exist are relatively difficult to find.
