Spoken Word and Children's Music
American cartoonist & author, who was also a partner in L.A. publishing firm, Price Stern Sloan, Inc. (purchased by Putnam Publishing Group, 1993). Price created the "Droodles" book in 1953, a humorous series of seemingly meaningless drawings which made amusing sense, once suitably captioned. The Frank Zappa album cover to Ship Arriving Too Late To Save A Drowning Witch is a typical example. Price later produced a syndicated book called "Mad Libs", with blank spaces within a story framework, where a group of readers could take it in turns to 'fill in the blanks'. There is much similarity in Price's humorous style and that of Zappa, whose 'conceptual continuity' approach to lyrics and the use of 'Sniglets' pervades his music. Price's "Droodles" became a huge craze during the 60's and the concept took on a life of its own, especially among teenagers.
