Roger Richards was born in 1939. At the age of seven he started playing piano and studied at the Royal Academy of Music for five years until he was sixteen. He later joined the Royal Air Force and played the clarinet in one of their bands at the independence celebration in Kenya, Uganda and Tanganyika. After completing five years' service in the Air Force he played the piano on a World Cruise liner and the organ in a night club in the Bahamas for a year. During Roger Richards' professional career he has accompanied many former stars and has for the last few years worked as musical director to Val Doonican.
