To talk about this album is as hard as easy; the same could be told about any other recording of spontaneously improvised music. Indeed, when you are in the live process of creating music you have no single chance to analyze what you’re doing: any attempt to make a post-factum analysis of the recording can lead to wrong conclusions – especially if you are analyzing your own improvisations. There is the only thing which can be claimed for sure: to record this album was easy and joyful, just like taking one breath. I didn’t re-record pieces, so each piece is truly unique and, if it wasn’t recorded it could exist no longer than it lasts. The last piece of the album, The Endless Ending, is exceptional – I’ve played it before on stage – but, as it always happens in improvised music, it sounds differently each time. Does this album have any idea, conception or image? I would suggest not to seek anything like this. Long time ago I got to the conclusion that if we would find a way to perceive music as it is and give up any meanings that our disturbed mind desperately needs, we could be much closer to the understanding of what music is. Though it can be hardly expressed in words – perhaps, it should be like this. Finally, the most important. This album couldn’t be appeared without the enormous help of Anastasiya Dumma – a native of Russia living in Boston. Thanks to her efforts, to record this music at one of the best recording studios of the legendary Berklee College of Music has become a reality. Roman Stolyar
