Band, NL
Singer / Musician of Alternative
Punk band from Rotterdam (end 1977 - sept. 1980) The band had simple rythmic tracks as basis for society critical /political lyrics. Members Johannes van der Weert (vocals), Maarten van Gent (guitar, vocals), Frank (bass), Allie van Altena (guitar, vocals) and Willem ter Weele (drums). Also Kees Isings played some time on bass, before Frank. RONDOS were a part of the red rock collective of four bands; RONDOS, RODE WIG, SOVJETS, TÄNDSTICKORSHOCKS. They do gigs together and share their equipment and the place where they practice. They had their own label; King Kong Records, a fanzine "Raket" and released various material aslike the comic "Red Rat". RODE WIG and SOVJETS never released material. Most members of this red rock collective lived in the same building at 2e Ijzerstraat Rotterdam. Named Huize Schoonderloo a.k.a. de Bunker (as that this was a former bomb shelter) The building was 'lent' instead of squated and converted to a practice and printing space. On their last single "Which Side Will You Be On?" they declare they quit. "the rondos quit. this is our last record. we brought the rondos to a conclusion, because in our opinion we became too succesful. and being succesful means accepted. besides; a great part of the punk-movement is developing in a direction which is not ours; violence, alcohol, confirmation and commerce/business. but the struggle continues! we keep fighting with other means. rondos september 1980"
