A.k.a. Roselea Arbana Maddox

Leading figure in the West Coast country music of the 1940's, singer-songwriter and fiddle player, born in Boaz, Marshall County, Alabama on 15 August 1925, died 15 April1998 in Ashland, Jackson County, Oregon, USA. She started as singer in the Maddox Brothers and Rose in the 1930's before a successful solo career. Cashbox magazine named her Top Female Country Vocalist of 1963. Her musical styles straddled hillbilly music, rockabilly and gospel. She was known for her flamboyant style, and colorful costumes. Inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame Art Gallery, and the Alabama State Country Music Hall of Fame. She continued singing into the 1990's. Her bluegrass album "$35 and a Dream" was nominated for a Grammy award in 1996. Her final album was "The Moon Is Rising".
